Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Junot Díaz is one of the more controversial figures in contemporary fiction. He is internationally renowned and is the Caribbean diaspora's premier fiction writer. This course will examine and discuss Díaz's short fiction collection This Is How You Lose Her along with various nonfiction works that were published in The New Yorker. We will pay particular attention to questions of race, love, diaspora, gender and class as modes through which to consider questions of form and content. Assignments will consist of narrative and creative analytical papers.
