Description

This course explores the experience and self-definition of several major queer writers - in fiction, poetry and memoir. The course is intended for any students who want to deepen their understanding of queer identity as expressed in literature and film. Texts include poems by Sappho, Walt Whitman, Adrienne Rich, Amy Lowell, Allen Ginsberg and Mark Doty; stories by Katherine Mansfield and others; and Paul Monette's memoir Becoming a Man. Films may include The Wedding Banquet, The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, Longtime Companion, Antonia's Line and Strawberry and Chocolate.
