Students continue to develop their linguistic skills while exploring nonfiction topics through a variety of sources including essays, newspapers, memoirs, documentaries, articles, podcasts, films, comics, etc. The course allows for the study of a wide variety of issues such as the historical, political and cultural landscape of Latin America and Spain, from colonial times to current events. Topics encountered in previous courses, such as independence movements, the struggle for democracy and social justice, the dynamics of socio-economic class, religion, globalization, changing family and gender dynamics and immigration may be explored in this course.
