In this course, students will explore a selection of contemporary plays, focusing on works by BIPOC playwrights, LBGTQ+ playwrights, female playwrights, and intersectional playwrights. Students will perform the plays aloud, either as informal readings around a table ("table reads") or rehearsed presentations in a theater setting ("staged readings"). This course is an exciting way to discover diverse new stories, discuss the voices and contributions of contemporary playwrights, develop or deepen acting abilities, and learn about new play development. Students will also have opportunities to engage with playwrights about their work and creative processes.
